VLM250 Velocity Meter and Length Meter

Low Cost White Light Velocity Meter

The VLM250 operates via low cost Quartz Halogen or LED lighting whereas normal laser-based velocity meters have a limited life span with laser modules that are costly to replace. Also, the VLM250 being a white light device, requires no Laser safety restrictions or appointed safety officer.

The VLM250 is a while light non-contact optical sensor for determining the length and velocity of products including metal, paper, plastics, rubber, ceramics and timber. It can be used for process positioning & cutting, for regulation, inspection and quality control.

The VLM250 Velocity and Length Sensor uses a CCD array operating under the “spacial filter” filtering principle to calculate length and velocity of a variety of products. Depending on the VLM250 model, measures velocity to an accuracy of 0.1% at velocities between 0.3 and 25m/sec and mounts at a distance of either 170mm, 185mm or 240mm from the products face to accommodate between ±7.5mm to ±15mm product bounce.

The product length can be determined to an accuracy of 0.1% for continuous product and where cut-to-length sheets are to be measured, the introduction of Laser Detectors provides sheet length to better than 5mm accuracy. Where product is red hot Bar, Rod or Tube, the VLM250 can be mounted to one side of the line for providing bar length velocity and length.

VLM250 Velocity Meter and Length Meter

The VLM250 works by illuminating the product to be measured by quartz halogen or LED lighting, and using optics, reproduces it onto the internal CCD sensor. When the product moves, a signal is generated via “grid modulation”. The signal’s frequency is proportional to the velocity of the product being moved. The VLM250 then converts this signal into velocity data.

The VLM250 automatically adjusts itself to a variety of materials, so is suitable for use on winding lines, extruders, coating and inspection lines. Also for determining velocity in Paper Mills or on cable laying in Cable laying ships or shaft lifts in mines etc.
