The Flexible Hot Metal Detector
The MD-85100 is a flexible, robust, fully digital “All-in–One” self-contained Hot Metal Detector (HMD) utilising a highly stable InGaAs Photodiode for detecting product where heavy quanitities of water and steam are present. Simple to setup, it incorporates a bar LED display that indicates the percentage of Infra Red detected relative to the adjustable threshold. The MD-85100 has programmable thresholds 250°C - 1,000°C (518°F - 1832°F) and response times from 1ms to 250ms that are simply programmed using covered push button switches on the HMD.
The MD-85100 operates from either 80 - 240VAC or from a 24VDC power input. Standard outputs include a cradle relay, a fast reed relay and both NPN/PNP transistor outputs.
This Hot Metal Detector (HMD) is flexible enough to be used throughout the steel mill due to the facility of a universal connection. This means that the MD-85100 can replace a range of hot metal detectors, resulting in quicker setup for the operator wherever it is used in the mill.
Activation of the MD-85100 is achieved by sensing the infra-red energy radiating from the hot product. Impervious to water or steam, the MD-85100 HMD is built to withstand the harshest of environments and for more secure detection the lens incorporates filtering removing the visible spectrum to minimise sensitivity to extraneous light.
Depending upon the application that the MD-85100 is used for, various lens options are available to ensure accurate detection. Typically to ensure precise detection or to accommodate strip or bar bounce a 1/2° x 25° lens should be used, whist for general us a range of spot lenses are available.
This MD-85100 Hot Metal Detector is especially suitable where ambient temperatures are subject to large changes. Its standard housing has a large air cooled chamber which vents via a deflector in front of the lens allowing the use of non-instrument air to provide air purging.
Alternatively, an optional sealed-loop water coolant radiator accommodates water at tap pressure with a separate air purge inlet and an option of an in-line vortex-tube air cooler available.
The MD-85100 has a remote self-check facility that operates by illuminating an internal Infra-Red LED that causes the detector to function and allows for checking of the outputs. Furthermore, alignment is easily facilitated from a small low power light source and a high gain LED indicator operating independent to the detectors output
