High Ambient Hot Metal Detector (HMD)

The MD95100-QIPS Under-the-line HMD is specifically designed for mounting the Remote Lens in high ambient areas under the line in the Rolling Mill table or within the Mill stands where there is high levels of water and steam present at the rollers.

The Remote Lens incorporates a quartz 1000°C rated lens in a stainless tubular housing assembly secured inside a purged stainless tubular housing. The housing is protected by a stainless shroud nozzle through which an air purge supply exits. This protects the lens from high radiant & ambient heat as well as preventing the mill contaminate entering the lens.

This also has the benefit of clearing any steam in the field of view of the lens. The Remote Lens is connected to the controller via 15 mtrs of 400°C spec flexible stainless sheathed optic lead that for further protection has a flexible stainless outer conduit.

The Remote Controller incorporates a Bar Display showing the IR input signal relative to the pre-set trip level as a linear percentage as well programmable thresholds and response times via similar switch action.

The modular Controller is protected by a mounting Cradle allowing quick extraction for adjustment or replacement. Costly inventory is not required as the Controller can be mounted far from the hot material and the Lens allowing easy replacement should damage occur.
