MDCV 83200-2H Laser Thickness Gauge

Calibrated Thickness Gauge

The MDCV 83200 Laser Thickness Gauge is purpose built for Plate Mills to determine the thickness of the hot plate at the Reversing Stand.

The MDCV 83200 Laser Thickness Gauge utilises Class II Laser Triangulation Meters (LTMs) across the C-Frame to determine the thickness of the plate. Exceptional high accuracy of thickness measurement is provided as the Gauge is automatically calibrated off a Certified Master plate sample that identifies the distortions in the gauge frame due to ambient changes and radiant heat that is then compensated for in the thickness output.

In addition, the frame temperature is monitored by implanted thermocouples with the outputs inputted into the Gauge Controller algorithms. Using this technique, this Gauge automatically compensates for any distortions and provides high-resolution thickness measurement, regardless of the effect of such temperature changes.

Whilst X-Ray and Isotope Thickness Gauges are unable to provide accurate measurement off both thick and thin plate from one Gauge, plus require calibration for the various steel alloys, this Gauge operates over a wide plate thickness range and is totally unaffected by alloy content. In addition, there are no x-ray or radioactive isotopes that need to be controlled when in use.

The MDCV 83200 laser Thickness Gauge operates via a Pentium 3VX Windows PC Controller mounted in a floor standing cabinet with flat resistive touch screen and user friendly graphic display. The Converteam HCPI software also addresses the expansion algorithms for 10 alloys to provide hot/cold conversion of plate thickness.

The C-Frame is purposely build from heavy steel plate and I-Beam support to maintain dimensions stability with changing ambient and high radiant heat emitting from the hot plate as it passes through the Gauge.

All exposed faces of the Gauge frame are shielded by suspended water cooled radiators fed from the plant water supply. The rigid C-Frame is furthermore protected by ceramic board insulation and polished stainless reflector panels. As added security each Laser chamber is independently from a closed loop Water Cooler supply.

Changes in the C-Frame throat are automatically compensated for. Incorporated lasers measure off a Master Plate mounted between the C-Frame and the line each time the gauge moves from ambush position to cover the line. This input thereby automatically zeros the Gauge measured thickness to this master sample. Additional sets of LDMs can be fitted to measure off Master Samples beside the line to continuously determine distortions in the C-Frame.
