LD600 Series Slab Width Gauge
Accurate Width Measurement
The LD600 Series of Width Gauges are designed for determining the width of cold and red hot Slab or Bloom of temperatures up to 1300°C in the Rolling Mill or Caster Line to an accuracy of between 0.5mm and 5mm.
Depending upon the clients accuracy needs and Mill layout restraints, there are various laser measuring devices that utilise either Time of Flight, Phase Shift or Laser Triangulation. This approach produces total flexibility to the user in selecting the right Gauge for their needs.
The laser measuring heads are mounted in robust secondary stainless enclosures with both water cooling and air purge allowing them to be mounted each side of a line in the harshest of environments with ambient temperatures up to 1300°C. To maintain the health of each measuring head, its temperature is monitored continuously and output via a “system health” relay.
The selection and positioning of the Laser measuring devices is determined by the variation in product dimension, the stand off distance required and the accuracy needed and thereby determining the Type/Model of Lasers to be selected.
The LD600’s CPU displays the distance between the product and each Laser as well as providing the calculated Slab/Bloom width and sending this data to a PC via the RS422 Interface. A keypad is provided for programming of the LD600 via a user friendly menu with regard to the location of the Laser measuring heads and any offset required.
The LD600 Gauge incorporates the added feature of auto calibration of the output where an extendable Calibration Bar is suspended between the line rollers and the LD600 Gauge zeroed to the bar.
Slab width is determined by synchronised measurement from both Laser Devices and via moving average calculation, removing any false readings generated from surface texture or other distorting factors

This Width Gauge provides the total solution at a low system cost without the implementation of a PC as the gauge CPU provides the calculated width in absolute values. The gauge is easy to install and commission.
